Dell has launched a range of affordable gaming laptops—the G-Series—designed as an alternative to more expensive Alienware gaming devices.
Dell Launches G-Series Gaming Laptops
If you are on the lookout for your first gaming laptop, then Dell’s G-Series looks promising, save for the fact that the range is currently only available in China.
Launched on March 8, 2021, the G-Series G15 laptop represents an inexpensive option when compared to the Alienware alternatives offered by Dell.
According to Dell, there will be three options available, but what about specs?
What Specs Does the Dell G15 Gaming Laptop Have?
Right now, Dell is keeping that information pretty close to its chest. Right now, we know there will be three performance options available to buyers, with the top end represented by 115W TDP (thermal design power) and Nvidia’s RTX 3000 GPUs.
In terms of the screen, you’re getting 15.6 inches of real estate to play with. Not the largest screen, but with portability at the core, you’re going to pay the price somewhere. However, the screen has a 360 Hz refresh rate so that more than makes up for the small (ish) screen.
Sticking with the screen, you also get a low blue light display. This is a real bonus if you have long gaming sessions. This can lead to eyestrain, which you should aim to reduce where possible. Blue light reduction can help here. The screen is TuV certified.
Dell has also improved the thermal design, basing it on the Alienware gaming laptops it also provides. This protects your laptop from overheating, which it is likely to do as it processes data from large, highly detailed games.
For the RGB fans, don’t worry, you’ll be taken care of too. The laptop can ship with an optional 4-zone RGB keyboard, which you can customize and control using AlienFX.
More cosmetics; the Dell G15 comes in a range of four colors. You can get it in Dark Shadow Grey, a really quite pleasant Spector Green (with speckles), Phantom Grey (again, speckled), and a sleek Obsidian Black.
The paint used to color the chassis is durable and environmentally conscious, according to Dell.
Overall, the range looks and sounds like a capable, inexpensive gaming laptop. We’ll just have to wait and see on those specs, though.
Are You Looking for a New Gaming Laptop?
If you are in the market for your first gaming laptop, then something affordable like the Dell G15 would make an excellent entry level device.
Clearly, a less expensive device will not cost you the earth, but will give you a taste of what it is like to use a gaming laptop.
Aside from gaming, they even make great workhorses that will glide through everyday chores and even processor-eating tasks like using Photoshop.
